The River Yare is  two minutes walk from the house down Baker Street. The house is about 20 feet above the flood plain. On the meadows  below the house herrings were put into barrels. The  area is now a residential and industrial site.

Along the quay are the remnants of  early  lifeboat  stations  and the modern Gorleston lifeboat.  Across the Yare is industry, shipping and  the Nelson monument.

The Pier and Harbour mouth are less than 10 minutes walk from the house. Brush Quay gets its name because  Dutch engineers used brushwood to divert the mouth of the river out to sea.

The Edwardian Music Hall  flourishes at the Gorleston Pavilion 5 minutes walk from the house.

The  Beach, also about 5 minutes walk,  has excellent sands and safe bathing. Ness Point at Lowestoft, the most easterly point in England, can be seen in the distance.

Eric Gill, the architect, artist  and designer of fonts only built  one church. The tower of the red brick catholic church can be seen  from  the house and is two minutes walk away.
